Legislation factor on electronic commerce
1. Data protection legislation is enacted to protect the individual,
to protect their privacy and to prevent misuse of their personal data.
In the UK, the enactment of the European legislation is the Data
Protection Act 1984, 1998 (DPA). Any company that holds
personal data on computers or on file about customers or
employees must be registered with the data protection registrar.
Netflix keep customers details on a secure server and they fully
comply with all applicable UK Data Protection and consumer
legislation in place from time to time.
2. Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most governments,
giving the creator of an original work exclusive right to it.
Generally, it gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for
the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms,
who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and
other, related rights. The Netflix have the right to use those films
and TV programs for commercial.
3. Electronic Contract
4. Advertising Law
5. Authenticating Contracts concluded over Internet
6. Domain name registration

You rightly refer to confidentiality of personal information. If you set up a similar company to Netflix you will need to ensure customers that their data is protected according to legislation.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the copyright of electronic content that your business is to deliver online? Are there any laws protecting content producers and punishing those who illegally access such content?
